What is ALLOY? In chemistry, alloys are made by bonding two existing metals to form a new, stronger material. While still bearing the traits of their core elements, alloys are designed to accomplish far more than each of their composite parts could on their own. As an added benefit, alloys also better resist corrosion from outside forces — making them harder to destroy.
In Franklinton, we seek an identical outcome: ALLOY ArtSpaces are designed to help residents, business owners, and community leaders bond together in support of a unified, stronger community. These spaces can take the form of public-facing murals, sculptures, performance venues, art events, educational programs, or other concepts not yet in existence.
About ALLOY ArtSpaces
ALLOY ArtSpaces is an initiative of the Franklinton Arts District designed to strengthen the bond between the local arts community and Franklinton residents. Local artists will be connected with paid opportunities to install public-facing artwork in the neighborhood. Designs are encouraged to reflect the history, culture, and people of Franklinton. While artists who live and/or work in Franklinton receive greater scoring consideration during the jury selection process, any artist from greater Columbus is welcome to apply.

“This was a great process from start to finish. I was given free rein to make the kind of work I enjoy and I was paid a fair wage to do so. These kinds of opportunities for artists are huge because they propel us forward and offer us the support we need to create new work and pay the bills. I am grateful for the opportunity River and Rich offered me and appreciate their interest in working with new artists to give life (and a little funk) to their spaces.” |
