THE BRIDGE GALLERY
PRESENTED BY FRANKLINTON ARTS DISTRICT

JULY 2022

BEN SLOBODIEN
ANIMALS DON'T GET DEPRESSED IN THE WILD

JULY 8 - AUGUST 7

Picture
We are excited to bring the debut solo exhibition from Ben Slobodien to the Bridge Gallery Presented By Franklinton Arts District with 'Animals Don't Get Depressed In The Wild'. The exhibition will open this Friday, July 8, from 6-10 PM.

Refreshments will be available with beer provided by Land-Grant Brewing Company. Admission is free; however, donations are encouraged.

ABOUT BEN SLOBODIEN Ben Slobodien was born in Columbus, Ohio, to an artistic and creative family. Given early access to a variety of art supplies, Ben forged ahead from his famous “Glue Period” at the age of 3, which invoked the action painters of the abstract expressionist movement, to more representational work. After reaching what is arguably considered his artistic peak the following year, his output has continued to evolve, but not necessarily improve.

ABOUT THE SHOW "I have never felt tied to any particular medium, discipline, or subject matter. My work tends to disintegrate into texture and chaos, which reorganizes itself into blips of hyperrealism, cartoon iconography, and all the shades in between. This mirrors the inner conversation of the mind. Oftentimes, in life, I don’t know precisely what I’m thinking about, or what I’m looking at; and I don’t need to. It still moves me. A sunset melts the familiar forms at the horizon into the ether of the heavens. What makes it affecting? What is it made from? Does it matter?
I create magical objects for the discerning observer. Imbued with intention and incantation, relics of the flow-state. Language is half-obfuscated–we are what we think about. Oils and inks and plastic paints set on fire, taken to the edge of destruction, and emerging changed.

Everything and everyone I have ever loved or admired has been a bit cracked, a bit untamed; the tension between their primordial state and the modern world laid bare. Therein lies the beauty.

Animals don’t get depressed in the wild."
