March 11 - April 2

Picture
We are pleased to welcome Scrawl 15 Veteran Daniel Rona to the Bridge Gallery Presented By Franklinton Arts District with Behind My Eyelids. The exhibition will open on this Franklinton Friday's on March 11, from 6-10 PM.

Refreshments will be available with beer provided by Land-Grant Brewing Company. Admission is free; however, donations are encouraged.

ABOUT DANIEL RONA Growing up in the Columbus suburb of Hilliard, Daniel began painting and drawing during childhood after becoming obsessed with graffiti and cartoons. As his artistic interests grew, he began to discover his own unique style at the intersection of the aforementioned inspirations and that of contemporary artists such as Philip Guston, George Condo, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.  Daniel's work is both intentional and experimental - muddling worldly objects into abstraction only to reemerge again. Rona's recurring character, referred to often as “Sole”, reverberates through most paintings as a symbol of creativity as well as self-representation.

ABOUT THE SHOW Behind My Eyelids explores painting with inspiration drawn from the fractal light shows, patterns, and abstract scenes visualized behind closed eyes. The moments before sleep or the water splashing my head produce dancing light on an already prepared black canvas inside my head. Bouncing patterns and a range of colors that absorb each other, actively changing in contrast and visibility, create unrendered compositions that leave me itching to visualize what I just saw. The title also lends itself to the impact art and the pursuit of creativity has on me. Even when my eyes are closed I’m always thinking about my work. I often joke, practice while I sleep, and paint when I’m awake.
